Dear Friends
and Neighbors,
It is good to be home in Wichita
after the 2006 legislative session.
I am proud to inform you that the Kansas Legislature continued to work to
make life better for the citizens of Wichita and
for all Kansans; and we were able to do it without a tax increase.
Providing affordable airfares
for Kansans flying from Wichita,
restricting picketing at military funerals, and using eminent domain to combat
drug houses are just a few of the bills and amendments that I introduced during this
session. Early in the session the focus was on cutting taxes in order to
improve economic development and to attract more jobs to Kansas. We also increased penalties for sexual
offenders who prey on children and the disabled. To lower taxes in a targeted manner,
I drafted legislation to eliminate the estate tax, and to phase out the franchise tax and the machinery and equipment
tax. I followed this by supporting a
responsible school finance plan in the wrap-up session. This website highlights
some of the hundreds of proposals that became law this year. It provides an in-depth look at some of the issues we addressed, and I hope you find it
useful and informative.
I would not be able to represent you during the legislative session
without the information that you provide through your calls, letters and
email. Your input and support are invaluable. I look forward to talking
with you when I’m in your neighborhood this fall. If I can be of assistance, please do not hesitate to
contact me.
Thank you for the opportunity to represent you in Topeka
It is an honor and a privilege to serve you.
Warmest
regards,
Mario
